DIY Stain Removal Tips for Your Home

Kids, pets, and clumsy house guests can unintentionally ruin your home’s beautiful carpets. But while pesky stains may seem like an inevitable part of life, you don’t have to live with them. Many stains are surprisingly easy to remove with peroxide, ammonia, and a bit of blotting. Regular Stains

The best DIY “spot remover” is a mixture of 2/3 household peroxide & 1/3 ammonia.

This stain removal concoction will work on pretty much any stain left behind from regular day-to-day messes that happen on carpet. Follow these instructions and say goodbye to unsightly spots:

Remove as much dry material as possible by thoroughly vacuuming the carpet.
Apply the spot remover mixture, then agitate with brush & allow to dry.
If spots are still visible, re-apply your DIY stain remover & agitate again.
Allow area to dry, then vacuum.

Liquid Spills

The DIY spot remover recipe we gave you earlier can also work on accidental spills and messes from coffee, tea, wine, and juice. All evidence of the stain is completely removed, making it as if there was never a mess to begin with. Do these simple steps and carry on with your life in a spot-free home:

Blot up as much liquid as possible with paper towels.
Apply the spot removal solution to the spill site. Agitate with brush & allow to dry.
If spots are still visible, re-apply your DIY stain remover & agitate again.
Allow area to air dry, then vacuum.

Pet Accidents

We love our furbabies, but we don’t love the stains they occasionally leave behind. If Fido had an accident while you were out, it’s important to tackle it before odors develop. The great thing about our DIY stain removal recipe we gave you earlier is that it can work on pet stains too! Follow these steps and keep on being the best pet parent in the world:

Remove any solid matter and blot up liquid with paper towels.
Apply the stain removal mix to the affected area and agitate with brush.
Put a folded white towel on area and with a weighted item on top and leave for 24 hours. (Any liquid in the back of the carpet or furniture will wick up into the towel.)
If spots are still visible, re-apply your DIY stain remover & agitate again.
Allow area to dry and vacuum.
